Something About Mary

Mary Vance Photography - Mary Vance

My family is my everything. I have a fabulously-bearded husband and two smarty-pants daughters. We are Christ loving, homeschooling, SyFy watching, and hopefully one day homesteading kind of people. Our house is full of music, laughter, sarcasm, games, and too many nerdy puns.

Food is my love language. If you're in my home, I'm going to feed you. I believe most problems can be solved with a bigger table.

One of the favorite hats I wear is as a mentor. I get to walk alongside an amazing group of girls who laugh and cry and just do life with me. They continually astound me with their insight, vibrance, and grace.

What's in my bag?

While I believe that it’s always the artist that makes the photo (not the camera!), I do love a good piece of tech. So if you’re of a similar persuasion, here’s a peek at some favorite gadgets in my bag:

  • Nikon D800
  • Nikon D750
  • Nikkor 35mm f/1.8
  • Nikkor 50mm f/1.4
  • Nikkor 85mm f/1.4
  • Nikkor 105mm f/2.8
  • Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8
  • Zoom H6
  • Oben Carbon Fiber Monopod

Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself…

Some times it’s easier for our minds to handle only one facet of a person. We distill people and experiences into a single perception. I often feel like a walking contradiction, but I know all those sides of my personality combine to make a unique identity. A mountain doesn’t have a single side and neither do I. Here is a short list of some of my personal contradictions. And be prepared to share some of yours when we meet! ;-)

  • I am a southerner at heart who refuses to monogram anything!
  • I grew up as a farm girl, but now consider myself a suburban tech head.
  • I have an advanced science degree, but have worked in the arts for over 15 years.
  • I am an introvert who enjoys people. I genuinely want to know your story.
  • I fully support caffeination for the world, but never drink coffee or tea or soda myself. (Except for soda water.)
  • I could stay at home for weeks, but when the wanderlust bug bites I need to get on a plane ASAP.
  • I love the outdoors, but it doesn’t always love me back!
